For week 6, I completed most of the first part of Chapter 1of the animation and prepared for the Midterm Showcase including installation, digital and prints.
This week, I worked on the first few scenes of Chapter 1 of the animation, which constitute the majority of the chapter. This process was relatively challenging for me due to the shadow puppet-like style of the animation. Since the characters’ facial features are almost immobile, conveying emotions and communication is more difficult. Additionally, because this animation has no sound, there are certain limitations in how information can be conveyed.
For the visual presentation of the resting state, I used a half-and-half approach. The left half features a sketch-like representation of the incense burner, while the right half is fully rendered with color and material. This method is intended to engage viewers and give them an idea of what to expect in the upcoming story.
In terms of preparation, I set up a standing-height table because my installation is designed to encourage users to engage with it while standing. Since it is placed in a museum setting, users are unlikely to sit down.
Additionally, I incorporated the elements we previously discussed regarding how my project contributes to the broader design world. For example, I highlighted how I applied informal learning strategies and what changes my project introduces to the current exhibition format. I integrated these explanations into the physical installation using dialogue boxes.
Finally, I assembled the projector, table, installation, and other components, testing their interactions and determining how to arrange them within the space. I also assessed the necessary distances between elements to ensure proper placement, making final preparations for the upcoming mid-term showcase.
